PADUA - SEPTEMBER 20 - 21

On September 20 we caught the train from Venice to Padua, and took a taxi to Padua where we checked into our room at Hotel Fagiano, a place filled with very funky original art as you can see from what's hanging above our bed.

After hotel check-in, we met our fellow tour members and our tour guide Patricia.
Then we walked to Trattoria al Prato for a delicious dinner and ample wine, followed by a night-time stroll through the city.

The next day we went to the Scrovegni Chapel and saw the frescoes of Giotto, a thirteenth century artist who began to depict Biblical characters in a more human way, and he added depth to his paintings, which was innovative for the time.

The afternoon included a tour of the "Anatomy Theater" which was a part of the University of Padua, founded in the 1200's. The autopsies were performed secretly because of the Roman Catholic Church's objection to the practice.

The most prominent sight in the town of Padua is St. Anthony's Basilica.
St Anthony was a very good speaker and his vocal chords are enshrined in the basilica. Very strange, no?

Our afternoon was free to explore on our own. Harry and I went to the botanical gardens, which also are a part of the university and the oldest study garden in the world.
