SEPTEMBER 22 - EXPLORING RAVENNA AND ARRIVAL IN MONTONE

We left Padua by bus and passed through Ravenna, stopping for sight-seeing and lunch, enroute to Montone, our final destination of the day.

In Ravenna we were led by local guide Marina through the Basilica di San Vitale where we saw beautiful mosaics, perfectly preserved for 1400 years because the colors of glass do not fade. Then Harry and I had lunch together in a sidewalk cafe on the Piazza del Popolo. I had lasagna, which looked nothing like the lasagna we eat here.

After our brief stop in Ravenna we continued driving south and arrived in Montone late afternoon. What an amazing surprise to see the beautifully preserved medieval town and our lovely accomodations at La Locando del Capitano.

Tricia provides the prosecco (Italian champagne) for our "toast with a view"!
Then we dine in the restaurant of the hotel and feast on the dishes prepared by "Il Capitano."
The main course is "cinghiale"...wild boar! Dinner concludes with a shot of "limoncello"

After dinner we all strolled around the village and enjoyed the moonlit night.
